West Brom vs Manchester United team news: Wayne Rooney starts as Jose Mourinho drops Juan Mata
United make three changes to the side that beat Crystal Palace while West Brom have Craig Dawson back in their only change
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney retains his place in the starting line-up for the Premier League trip to West Bromwich Albion as he continues to search for the goal that will see him draw level with Sir Bobby Charlton’s club record.
Rooney is just one goal short of Charlton’s tally of 249, and the United captain is named on the left wing for the trip to The Hawthorns as Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to lead the line.
Manager Jose Mourinho makes three changes to the side that beat Crystal Palace 2-1 during the week, with Eric Bailly ruled out through injury and Daley Blind dropping to the substitutes’ bench as Antonio Valencia returns from suspension to start at right-back and Matteo Darmian comes in on the left.
Juan Mata drops out of the side despite Henrikh Mkhitaryan still being absent through injury, so England international Jesse Lingard starts on the right of the midfield attacking trio that also includes Rooney and Paul Pogba.
West Brom recall Craig Dawson as he returns from suspension in the only change made by Baggies’ manager Tony Pulis, with James Morrison dropping to the bench and Claudio Yacob shifting forward to midfield.
