Rangers will be without Mikel Arteta and Ronald de Boer for the trip to Dundee United. The Spanish midfielder has a knee injury while the Dutchman, De Boer, is ruled out with a thigh problem. Stefan Klos is rested again to allow Allan McGregor another start in goal.

Shota Arveladze is set to sign a new contract at Ibrox, while Michael Ball yesterday said he too was keen to stay at the club, ending rumours linking with a return to his old club Everton.

Celtic welcome back Chris Sutton (groin) and Alan Thompson (hamstring) as they travel to Hearts tomorrow, but they will be without Jackie McNamara and Robert Douglas. Douglas has a hip injury while McNamara suffered a calf problem in the midweek defeat to Aberdeen so both will be given time to recover with the Tennent's Scottish Cup final on 22 May in mind.

John Hartson also hopes to return for the final. The striker has not kicked a ball since scoring twice in a 5-1 win over Kilmarnock in January, having undergone a career-threatening back operation just last month. But he has made good progress in the gym and will step up his rehabilitation next week.

Meanwhile, both Rangers and Celtic have been linked with Feyenoord's Robin van Persie. The 20-year-old caught the Rangers manager Alex McLeish's eye as a teenager when he tormented Tony Vidmar in a Uefa Cup tie.
