Celtic cruised into the last four of the Scottish Cup with a demolition of Clyde at Broadwood Stadium that witnessed Craig Bellamy's first goal for his new club.

The Welsh striker, on loan from Newcastle United, sealed the rout with a fine right-foot finish as the holders erased the memory of their Old Firm defeat in the League a week earlier to Rangers to keep alive their hopes of the Double.

The margin was a harsh reflection on the First Division side who had troubled Celtic greatly in the first half and could have seized control had Craig Bryson's "goal" not been denied by the zealous whistle of the referee Craig Thomson.

The teenager hit the net with a fierce right-foot shot after 31 minutes but Thomson awarded a free-kick to Clyde for an earlier foul on Bryson and Darren Sheridan's free-kick struck the base of the post.

Celtic profited from their escape when Stanislav Varga broke the deadlock five minutes before the interval, rising to meet Juninho's corner and glance a header beyond Bryn Halliwell.

Two minutes after the interval, Alan Thompson killed off the tie when he scored from the spot after substitute Shaun Maloney was brought down by Bryson.

Stilian Petrov then hit the bar before stretching Celtic's lead in the 60th minute, playing a deft one-two with Juninho and firing his shot beyond Halliwell.

Varga collected his second goal in the 68th minute, tapping in Thompson's corner, and then Bellamy got the goal he craved. Clyde were cut open by Aiden McGeady and Juninho and his cross was whipped into the net by Bellamy.
