Barry Ferguson has admitted he is already worrying about whether his decision to leave Rangers for Blackburn Rovers was the right one.

The Scotland international midfielder, who is set to captain his country against Lithuania today, shocked Rangers fans by demanding a move to the Premiership just days into the new season. Blackburn beat others, including Everton, to sign him for £7.5m.

"I didn't think I would miss [Scotland] as much as I do but I do," Ferguson said. "At the time I thought it was right for me to move. Who knows it may be the wrong decision it may be the right decision - time will tell."

He joined another former Rangers captain, Lorenzo Amoruso, at Ewood Park, but neither have enjoyed a successful start to their new careers. "When you leave the training ground that is the hardest bit of it," Ferguson said. "The family is not down yet and the house is not going to be ready till the end of December. I have been travelling up and down the road to England quite a lot and that is killing me as well. The travelling is not great.

"I need to get up at 7am to get down the road in time for training, but I can't do that. If I could commute every day I would. Once the kids are settled it will be fine. That's the hardest thing just now, not seeing them.

"Once I get into my normal life things will be fine. I am used to my mum and dad being five minutes away and my mates are five minutes away. I can understand guys coming to Rangers and not settling. In the past when they came in I would say 'what is the problem with you?' But I realise now it is hard to settle without your family there."

Ferguson also admitted that he had also found the step up from the Scottish Premier League, where he was used to winning, to the Premiership, difficult. He said: "We can't get a result - that's the problem. It is miles faster down there, someone's on you right away.

"It is also more physical as well, which is good - but it will take a bit of getting used to. I made the decision to leave and I will get used to the fact that we don't win every week the way Rangers do."

Ferguson left Ibrox despite helping the club into the Champions' League for the first time in three years. In contrast, Blackburn face elimination from the Uefa Cup after a first-leg defeat by unfancied Turkish opponents Genclerbirligi. "I have been watching the Champions' League games," he added, "and I still speak to all my mates a couple of times a week. I watched the Old Firm game in Peter Reid's office at Leeds last weekend."

Meanwhile, Blackburn have negotiated an option to sign Chinese striker Qu Bo if he impresses in a trial at Ewood Park. The 22-year-old has already been on trial with Tottenham.
