Alvaro Morata latest: Juventus 'confirm' Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United target will return to Real Madrid

Juventus have confirmed that Alvaro Morata will return to Real Madrid this summer, after the European champions triggered a buy-back clause in the player’s contract.

The Evening Standard reports that Morata will re-join Madrid, where he left in the summer of 2014, for a fee of £23m. When he departed for Juve, a clause was inserted into the contract allowing Real to buy him back at a later date.

Madrid are expected to make a tidy profit by putting Morata straight up for sale for a fee of around £40m.

The news was expected by English suitors Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, who have all been linked with a move for the Spaniard this summer.

Conditions in the clause meant that Madrid were obliged to activate it no later than July, or else wait a further two years. Madrid will now hope to spark a bidding war between the Premier League clubs.

Morata’s departure will be a blow to Juventus, where he had become an integral part of the team over the past two seasons, netting 27 goals.

Giuseppe Marotta, Juventus’ director general said: “Real Madrid have informed us of their intention and we expect the paperwork to be concluded in a matter of days.”
