Andre Villas-Boas moves to calm Gareth Bale exit fears
Tottenham winger put in another electrifying performance during last night's victory over Liverpool
With every great performance (and they're coming pretty regularly) comes another round of transfer speculation for Gareth Bale.
The Tottenham winger was in electrifying form again during last night's victory over Liverpool, setting up the first of the night for Aaron Lennon by running 50 yards and beating four players in red shirts. He capped his display in the 2-1 win when he scored from a long distance free-kick.
While speculation that the Welshman may move away from White Hart Lane is nothing new, manager Andre Villas-Boas' comments after yesterday's games will have concerned Spurs supporters.
The Portuguese manager appeared to suggest Tottenham may struggle to keep hold of the 23-year-old in light of his recent displays.
"At the moment he is performing extremely well for Spurs and we are amazed at what he can do for us. He is on to a great career," Villas-Boas said.
"Obviously Tottenham as a football club want to keep him here for as long as we can but we understand players like this have propositions and a market, which is the nature of the game."
Seemingly wary of how his comments have been received, Villas-Boas today made it clear that although speculation will mount, Tottenham have no intention of parting with the player who signed a new contract last summer.
"Like all of our key players, Gareth is on a long-term contract as we continue to build for the future and his progression will be of benefit to our team," he told Tottenham's official website.
"He is an important part of our future and we have no intention of letting any of our top players go."
