Angel di Maria latest: PSG 'lead the race' for Manchester United target as the Real Madrid man would rather move to France

United target is close to a move to Paris, according to Spanish media

Manchester United could lose out in their chase for Angel di Maria, with the Argentina and Real Madrid winger closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Real president met with PSG's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi in Madrid on Friday to discuss a potential €60m (£47.7m) move.

The 26-year-old enjoyed an excellent season for Los Blancos, scoring 11 goals and adding 26 assists as Carlo Ancelotti's team won the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

But Di Maria could be the man to make way as Real chase a blockbuster deal for James Rodriguez, who lit up the World Cup with six goals and two assists.

The fee received will likely be put towards Rodriguez, who could costs as much as €80m.

Despite United's interest in Di Maria, AS state that he would prefer a move to the French capital. Di Maria is also believed to want Champions League football next season, which United will not be able to offer after they finished seventh last season.

Di Maria is a doubt to make an appearance in tonight's World Cup final against Germany.

Louis van Gaal will begin his reign of Manchester United next week after leading the Netherlands to third place. United have already signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer, and are chasing several other players, including Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.
