Manchester United’s unsettled midfielder Angel Di Maria must hand in an official transfer request if he wishes to leave Old Trafford to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer, report the Daily Mail.
The Premier League’s record signing at £59.7m endured a difficult first season in England despite early promise after arriving last August and, coupled with his wife’s unhappiness in Manchester, speculation persists that Di Maria wants to leave United after less than a year at the club.
However, United boss Louis van Gaal is loath to let the Argentine go despite the continuing rumours linking him with a big-money move to the French capital, and admits to seeing him as an integral part of his plans for the coming campaign.
With United adamant that they do not want to sell their playmaker, it is clear that Di Maria’s best hope of a departure is to force a move away. By officially handing in a transfer request, the player would waive any financial right from his future sale.
Following his arrival from Real Madrid, Di Maria made 27 Premier League appearances for United last term, scoring only three goals – all of which came within his first five games – in the process. He is currently not with the rest of his teammates on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States having been given leave following his exploits for Argentina in the Copa America.
Despite their insistence that Di Maria is not for sale, United have made recent enquiries about Barcelona’s Pedro although it is thought that the Spaniard would be brought in to strengthen attacking options at the club rather than as a direct replacement for the wantaway Argentine.Reuse content
