Shkodran Mustafi has claimed that fellow German international Mesut Ozil played a key role in convincing him to join Arsenal.

The German’s move to the Emirates is expected to be confirmed on Tuesday alongside Lucas Perez who joins from Deportivo de La Coruña.

Mustafi recently played with Ozil and Per Mertesacker for the national team at Euro 2016 where the side reached the semi-finals before losing to France.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Mustafi said Ozil had easily convinced him of making the switch to the Premier League.

“I talked to Mesut – he told me everything I wanted to know,” he said. “Everything was positive, so I was convinced very fast. It did not take much.”

The defender also admitted that Arsenal’s continental style of football was another contributing factor in his decision to pen a five-year deal with the club.

"I have always loved Arsenal, I like how they play here, it is not typical English,” Mustafi added.

"The game here is more like in Spain and with the German national team, keeping the ball on the grass, so it was easy to convince me."

It’s believed Mustafi will move to Arsenal for an expected £35m while Perez will join for around £17.1m.

The latter will reportedly hold a press conference today at Deportivo to bid an emotional farewell to the club’s players, staff and fans.

At £17.1m, Perez will become the club’s third most expensive sale behind Rivaldo and Flavio Conceicao.
