Who could Arsenal sign in the summer in a bid to strengthen their Premier League title challenge next season?

Now that Arsene Wenger has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension that will keep him at Arsenal until 2017, he can turn his full attentions to the club’s transfer business this summer.

Some fans may have laughed at the words “transfer business” and “Arsene Wenger” in the same sentence not so long ago, but the Gunners’ manager parted with a club-record £42.5m last year to land Germany international Mesut Özil, and the club are expected to land at least one more high profile signing in the upcoming months.

The obvious position that requires strengthening is bringing another striker into the club, with Olivier Giroud struggling to perform week-in, week-out last season after Yaya Sanogo and Nicklas Bentdner failed to provide ample support.

Karim Benzema, Alvaro Morata and Julian Draxler have all been mentioned with a move to the Emirates in recent months, as well as a whole host of other strikers.

But the confirmed exit of Bacary Sagna means Wenger will likely have to bring in a new right-back, although whether it is to replace Sagna or to provide cover for a promoted Carl Jenkinson remains to be seen. Wenger may also need to add a centre-back with doubts over the future of club captain Thomas Vermaelen, while Lukasz Fabianski will leave for Swansea at the end of the season meaning a new goalkeeper could also arrive in the summer.
