Arsenal were still weighing up a move for Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on loan last night. Arsène Wenger is interested in the Turkey schemer, who is not in Jose Mourinho's first-team plans, but with no deal done yet the Arsenal manager is still thought to be considering his options.

Real manager Mourinho did confirm yesterday though that he was keen on Sahin moving to the Premier League. "The Premier League is a good place for players to pick up certain characteristics which he does not have," Mourinho said.

England striker Danny Welbeck committed his future to Manchester United yesterday by signing a new four-year deal. It will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2016, extending his stay at a club he joined five years ago. "Playing for United is all I've ever wanted to do – it's the club I've supported all my life," Welbeck said. "I can't wait for the challenge of the new season to play my part in helping the team compete for trophies."

Swansea expect to complete the club-record signing of Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng today for £5m. Ki, who has won 47 caps for South Korea, signed for Celtic in January 2010, but will become manager Michael Laudrup's eighth summer signing.

Southampton hope to sign Gaston Ramirez despite Bologna delaying the move due to their financial troubles.A £12m fee has been negotiated for the 21-year-old Uruguay winger. However, Bologna are believed to be stalling as they seek to secure a loan against the repayments.

West Ham are waiting for a response from Wolves after tabling a fourth bid for winger Matt Jarvis. The Hammers have put together a deal worth around £10m for the 26-year-old, based on an initial downpayment of £7m. West Ham manager Sam Allardyce hopes to include Jarvis, who has made one appearance for England, in his squad for Saturday's Premier League clash with Swansea.
