Barcelona midfielder Xavi rejected the chance to sign for Manchester United over the summer, according to reports in Spain.

The legendary playmaker had permission to leave the Catalan giants in the last transfer window, who he has played for for his entire career, but eventually stayed on at the Nou Camp.

According to the Madrid daily newspaper, El Mundo, United made an offer for Xavi this summer, but he decided to stick with Barca.

United over £150m this summer, and recently appointed manager Louis van Gaal tried and failed in his bid to sign the 34-year-old.

Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Falcao all joined the club this summer.

 

Blind, Falcao and Rojo could make their United debuts against Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League match at Old Trafford on Sunday.
