Big-spending PSG 'land Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva'

The Milan president, Silvio Berlusconi, has claimed the Italian club are selling striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain for a combined €65m (£51.4m).

"Yes, I sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to PSG," Berlusconi said last night. "We will save €150m in two years."

Ibrahimovic, who was Serie A's top scorer last season, netting 28 goals as Milan finished runners-up to Juventus, was tied to the Rossoneri for another three seasons. The 30-year-old Sweden captain spent two seasons at Milan, the first on loan from Barcelona.

Silva has been strongly linked with a move to the ambitious Ligue 1 club throughout the summer, but he appeared to have committed his future to Milan when, after they turned down a reported £36.35m bid from PSG, he signed a new contract to keep him at San Siro until June 2017.

The signings continue the summer recruitment drive of PSG, backed by their Qatari owners and who have Carlo Ancelotti as coach, as they look to land the French title and make an impact in the Champions League. They have already brought in Argentina striker Ezequiel Lavezzi from Napoli.
