Cesc Fabregas transfer latest: Arsenal reportedly rule out move for former captain as Liverpool move into pole position in hunt for £30m Fabregas

Fabregas looks set to leave Barcelona this summer with intense interest coming from the Premier League

Arsenal will not make a move to bring former captain Cesc Fabregas back from Barcelona despite reports claiming the midfielder will leave the Spanish club for £30m this summer.

Fabregas was in London over the weekend, but the 27-year-old was not negotiating a move to Arsenal as he was attending a Beats by Dre advert. However, the Spain international is believed to be keen on a move back to the Premier League with a number of clubs interested in his services.

But while Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are all keeping tabs on his availability, the Daily Mail claim that the Gunners will not bid for their former skipper even though they have a clause in Fabregas’ contract that allows them to meet any bid made for the central midfielder.

The reports go on to claim that Arsenal will look to strengthen this summer but in other areas, with manager Arsene Wenger happy with his current options in the middle with Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey forming a formidable attacking trio last season when all three were fit.

A more defensive-minded midfielder remains the priority given that first-team regular Mikel Arteta entering the final year of his contract. Borussia Dortmund’s Sven Bender has been linked with a move to north London, as has Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez although the Spaniard would cost in the same region as Fabregas while Bender would also draw a large fee if Dortmund were willing to let him go.

While relations between Wenger and Fabregas remains positive, the 64-year-old Frenchman feels that his attention is required in other areas, especially in the striker and right-back positions as he looks to provide support for Olivier Giroud and replace the out of contract Bacary Sagna, who looks to be heading to Manchester City.

After pursuing Fabregas last summer, Manchester United were originally considered the frontrunners to sign his this time round, only to see Liverpool steal a march on their rivals as they emerged over the weekend as they favourites for his signature.

United saw two bids rejected, the second of £25m, by Barcelona in the summer transfer window but the Catalans look set to undergo a squad revamp after ending the season trophyless. With new manager Luis Enrique ready to bring in his own targets, Fabregas’ second stay at the Nou Camp looks to be coming to an end, and there is also interest coming from City and United in not only the former Arsenal favourite but also his team-mate Andres Iniesta.

Whether both leave the club this summer remains to be seen, but it appears that the top Premier League clubs are ready to raid Barcelona in the hope of strengthening for next season.
