Chelsea have today announced the signing of Matt Miazga from New York Red Bulls for £3.5m. The 20-year-old central defender has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at the South London club.
He has told the official Chelsea website: "I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, a world-famous club with a reputation for major success. I am delighted to be in the Premier League, the best league in the world, and can’t wait to meet my team-mates and get going.
"I am still at the beginning of my career but I believe this is the place to develop and learn from some of the best players in the world."
20-year-old Miazga has been at the New York Red Bulls since 2009 and signed his first professional in 2013 aged only 17 years old.
Miazga debuted for the side as an 18–year-old before settling into the side at centre-back. In his time at the Red Bulls he displayed some of his best performances playing in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The New Jersey born player has one international cap after making his debut against St Vincent and the Grenadines in November 2015. He will be a long term option for Chelsea looking to break into the first team ahead of John Terry, Kurt Zouma and Gary Cahill at the heart of the Blues defence.
