Angel Di Maria has not ruled out the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo making a stunning return to Manchester United, although conceded that it was unlikely.

There was much speculation last year about a possible move to Old Trafford for the reigning Ballon d'Or holder - so much so that some plucky United fans even tried to tip the balance in their favour by paying for a banner asking him to return to be flown over a Real Madrid match.

Real Madrid and Ronaldo himself played down the speculation and talk has since quietened.

However his former Real Madrid team-mate, who now plays at Manchester United after switching for a record British transfer fee, did not completely rule out the move happening.

"I don’t think he is coming back to Manchester. It's hard to quit Real Madrid. Maybe, but I think he's having a great time and I don't see that he wants to change."

Di Maria was speaking to South America's Radio America during which he also lavished praise on his new team-mate Wayne Rooney.

"Rooney is an quality player," said the Argentina international.

"He has an amazing mindset and desire to play every game that is unmatched. He plays every game for 90 minutes. He’s always giving he best, fully in every game. That has surprised me. He is a player who deserves to be here."

Di Maria returned to action in the recent FA Cup third round victory over Yeovil after an absence through injury.
