Paris Saint-Germain have denied allegations that they made a £85m bid for Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speculation was first raised by the Middle Eastern newspaper Rotana which claimed that PSG’s owners had met with Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, to discuss the transfer.

With UEFA having relaxed their Financial Fair Play restrictions on the club, the move was supposed to have been made possible according to rumours that surfaced within the Middle Eastern media.

The paper Mlaib stated that PSG had been closely following reports alleging that Ronaldo had become disillusioned at the Santiago Bernabeu, especially in the wake of Rafael Benitez’s appointment as club manager.

But PSG have insisted that they made no such offer for the player. The club president’s advisory team stated that “It is quite untrue”.

Benitez has himself challenged suggestions that Ronaldo had become unsettled and played down an alleged training-ground disagreement. “My relationship with him is good,” Benitez said. “When someone gets angry during a training session, but then does their job, there’s no problem. It’s fine.”

He added: “Working with Ronaldo, you realise just why he is the best in the world.

“I’m really pleased because he’s scoring goals and winning man of the match.

“Everything is fine. In football you have to concentrate on the future, and the future is quite positive”.

Even if an offer had been made, the Spanish side have made it clear that their star player is not for sale.
