David De Gea has said he is returning to Manchester to report for United's pre-season training on Monday.

The Spain international has been in Madrid in recent days, touching down in the Spanish capital on Thursday. It sparked rumours that his proposed move to Real Madrid was progressing. However, the player himself said he was in Madrid simply to "rest".

Manchester United's pre-season training begins tomorrow and despite all the speculation surrounding the 24-year-old, he has confirmed that he is returning to meet up with the rest of the squad before they depart on their pre-season tour of the United States on 13 July.

Speaking to Spanish television channel Cuatro, De Gea said: “Real Madrid? I have to return to Manchester for pre-season”.

It is expected that the former Atletico Madrid player will hold talks with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal over his future this week.

The latest reports suggest that De Gea will be allowed to leave for the Bernabeu this summer, but only if Manchester United can bring Sergio Ramos the other way.

Should De Gea remain at Old Trafford beyond the close of the transfer window, he would be able to leave for free in 12 months time when his contract expires.
