Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will incur the wrath of Atletico Madrid supporters if he ends up making the move to bitter rivals Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants since the end of last season and was in Madrid over the weekend, with some reports stating that he was negotiating a deal at the club. De Gea said that he was only in Madrid to 'rest' and will return to United pre-season today.

De Gea, 24, joined Atletico as a 13-year-old, rising through the ranks and eventually playing 84 matches for the B and first-team, before he was sold to United for around £18million in June 2011.

Former team-mate Tomas Ujfalusi, who was part of De Gea's defence as the team won the Europa League in 2010, believes the Spaniard will betray the Atletico supporters if he joins their bitter rivals.

"No, no, no. They are not going to forgive him [if he joins Real Madrid], for sure," he told the Daily Mail. "It's not going to be easy for him to make this decision.

"It's also a surprise for me because he's an Atletico Madrid fan – when he was young his heart was with Atletico Madrid."
