PSG to bid around £40million, according to reports

Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a £40million bid for Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria, but have ruled out an Edinson Cavani swap, according to reports.

Di Maria is strongly linked with a move to Paris having almost joined the Ligue 1 club last summer. After a poor season at Old Trafford, during which he started just one game in the final three seasons, the Argentinian winger is strongly linked with an exit.

PSG are getting ready to make a £40m bid, according to the Daily Telegraph, but Edinson Cavani will not be involved in the deal.

Louis van Gaal wants to keep Di Maria for at least another season, but will allow him to leave rather than have an unhappy player in his squad. The Dutch coach expects Di Maria to join up with the squad when as agreed on 25 July in the US but is unsure about his future.

Despite Cavani's apparent unhappiness at playing wide on the left and as second fiddle to main man Zlatan Ibrahimovic, PSG regard him as one of their main assests.

With Ibrahimovic now 33, and suggestions that he may return to AC Milan at the end of his contract, selling Cavani could leave the French champions searching for a world class striker next summer.

PSG could even sell Ibrahimovic this summer for the right offer and make Cavani their first-choice - it would be difficult for United to lure him to Old Trafford if that were to happen.
