Emile Heskey transfer news: Former Leicester and Liverpool striker set for return to England after he trains with Bolton Wanderers

Former England striker has spent the last two seasons in Australia but was released in the summer

Fear not, for the Messiah has returned. Former England striker Emile Heskey, currently unattached to any club, is training with Bolton Wanderers ahead of a possible return to English football.

36-year-old Heskey is back in the country and looking for a new home after leaving Australian A-League club Newcastle Jets having spent the last two year’s Down Under.

The striker has been spotted training at the Macron Stadium and could agree a permanent switch to the Championship side, having befriended current manager Neil Lennon during their days at Leicester City together.

The veteran of 62 England caps – but just seven goals on the international stage – has turned out for the Foxes, Liverpool, Birmingham, Wigan and most recently Aston Villa before deciding a move abroad was needed in September 2012.

He went on to make 42 league appearances for Newcastle Jets, chipping in with 10 goals during his stay in the Southern Hemisphere, but after appearing at the King Power Stadium for Leicester’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night, it appears he’s closing in on a switch back to English football.

Any possible move for Heskey could see him link up with former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, who turned out for Bolton’s reserves in a match against Middlesbrough on Monday night. The Icelandic forward spent two years with the Trotters before heading to the Blues in 2000, and he turned out for Tottenham, Stoke and Fulham during his well-travelled career.
