Manuel Pellegrini is hoping a decision over Frank Lampard's future will be resolved in the next few days.

The former Chelsea midfielder, on loan from New York City FC of the MLS, has played an eye-catching cameo role for Manchester City this season, with six goals for the club this season - only Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure have more.

The 36-year-old is open to extending his spell at the club, that was originally set to run until January, although the MLS season begins in March.

Asked if he risked upsetting his American counterparts, Pellegrini said: "I don't think so. That is why we have long conversations with all of them.

"That is just one club so I think that what is better for the club is better for all the clubs.

"I hope Frank's situation will be resolved in the next days. I said in the beginning it will be during December we are going to have the last decision.

"I repeat, Frank is very important for our team so I hope he will stay here."
