Gareth Bale is determined to stay at Real Madrid despite the prospect of a world-record summer bid from Manchester United, according to the Evening Standard.

It is understood that United have the funds to make a £100million offer for Bale – eclipsing the mark set when the 25-year-old moved to Madrid from Tottenham for £86m two years ago.

Bale’s second year in Madrid has not been as happy as his first, in which he helped the club to the Champions League and Copa del Rey (Spanish domestic cup) with goals in the final of both competitions.

He has become a target for home supporters and the Madrid media who have suggested the Welshman is not working hard enough for the team.

Despite that, however, it is believed Bale’s desire to remain in Spain is as strong as ever and he is not pushing to return to the Premier League.
