Former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel believes the current Spurs No 1 Hugo Lloris will stay at the club this summer.

Lloris, who is likely to miss the Premier League opener against Manchester United after injuring his wrist, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, with David De Gea expected to move back to Spain for Real Madrid.

Friedel, who spent four years at Spurs between 2011 and 2015,does not think that Lloris will make the move before the transfer window closes on 1 September. Friedel retired at the end of last season.

"For me personally, I don't foresee that transfer even remotely starting up," Friedel told the Daily Express. "Hugo is a Tottenham player, he is the Tottenham captain and he will be a Tottenham player, and I don't see that changing. I don't even think we need to discuss that possibility, and I mean that sincerely."

De Gea, who has one year left on his contract at United, could make the move to the Bernabeu this summer.

Lloris returned from injury to play 35 minutes during Wednesday's 2-0 win over AC Milan, but Pochettino warned that he might not be ready for a full game.

"He played 35 minutes and it was fantastic to see," Argentine Pochettino was quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard.

"It was very positive today to assess him, but maybe he is not ready for 90 minutes.

"But it's very important he is ready to come back."

He joined Spurs from Lyon for £8m in 2012.
