Hull City have joined Aston Villa and Valencia in the chase for Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverely, Tigers boss Steve Bruce has confirmed.

The East Yorkshire club are still looking to strengthen after being knocked out of the Europa League in the qualifying rounds against KSC Lokeren.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, the former Sunderland manager revealed that discussions have been held between the two clubs but he is in the dark about any progress which may have been made.

"There has been conversations between the two clubs and we did have some sort of offer, but where we are up to between the two clubs I am not too sure because I have been away in London.

"If there is a deal to be done to try and get somebody like Tom then of course we would be interested."

Hull join Premier League rivals Villa and La Liga giants Valencia in the pursuit of Cleverely's signature.

The England international is almost certain to leave Old Trafford after being informed by Louis van Gaal that he has no place in his plans.

The Red Devils, who remain winless so far this season, are thought to be pursuing Juventus star Arturo Vidal but there hasn't been much movement in that deal.

The Tigers, on the other hand, have funds to spend after selling Shane Long to Southampton for £12m earlier in the summer window.

Bruce is on the verge of confirming a record-breaking deal for Uruguay international striker Abel Hernandez but remains keen to improve in other areas.
