Real Madrid have announced the signing of Javier Hernandez from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old will join Carlo Ancelotti's squad on a season-long loan with first option to buy the striker next summer.

Hernandez had already been told by Dutch manager Louis van Gaal that his chances at Old Trafford this season would be limited, but the arrival of Radamel Falcao from Monaco this morning saw the striker move even further down the pecking order.

Hernandez enjoyed a prolific first three seasons at Old Trafford scoring in 50 goals in 117 matches under Sir Alex Ferguson, before managing just nine goals in 35 matches for David Moyes last season.

Danny Welbeck is another striker who could be on his way out of the club, with Arsenal and Tottenham interested in the England striker.

Hernandez played just 45 minutes of United's three Premier League matches so far this season, though he did play 90 minutes in the embarrassing 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat at the hands of MK Dons.

The European Champions have a shortage for their central striking role - despite the talents of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, Carlo Ancelotti only has Karim Benzema to play in the No 9 position.

The others could cover in that role but the club sold Alvaro Morata this summer to Juventus - he made 34 appearances in total last season, mostly from the bench, scoring nine goals.
