Hernandez, 27, moved to United from Guadalajara in 2010, but faltered after an impressive start with the team. He spent last season on loan at Real Madrid. He completed a £7m move ot Bayer Leverkusen this week.

But was the Van Gaal snub anything to do with how the manager reacted to his penalty miss last weekend.
