Jermain Defoe to QPR: Harry Redknapp says he will try to re-sign striker in January after failed deadline day attempt

Defoe ended up staying at Toronto FC

Harry Redknapp has revealed that "there is every chance" he will sign Jermain Defoe for Queens Park Rangers in January, after having an offer rejected for the Toronto FC striker on deadline day.

The striker had previously played for Redknapp at West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur.

"We tried all day with Jermain Defoe. He was keen to come," Redknapp told Talksport. "We agreed a deal with Toronto but they wouldn’t release him now. We could do a deal and then take him in January but we wanted to get someone in today."

"There is every chance he will come in January. I’m a big fan of Jermain’s. Almost certainly, I think we will [go back in for him]. I’ve signed him so many times. I’ve taken him everywhere."

As per usual, Redknapp completed some business on deadline day, bringing in Sandro from Tottenham and Niko Kranjcar on loan from Dyanmo Kiev.

"We got Sandro from Tottenham which I’m absolutely delighted about, he’s fantastic.

"He’s just what we need and we’ve bought Niko Kranjcar back to the club on a year loan. I’m pleased to have those two. We couldn’t get a striker but that’s how it goes.”
