Juan Cuadrado, Wilfried Bony or Gabriel Paulista - who was the best signing of the January transfer window?

Juan Cuadrado was the biggest signing of deadline day, arriving at Chelsea from Fiorentina for around £26.1m.

The Colombian was among the stars of the World Cup and was signed to replace World Cup winner Andre Schurrle who left for Wolfsburg.

However, Cuadrado wasn't the most expensive signing of the window - that honour goes to Wilfried Bony who went from Swansea to Manchester City.

The Ivory Coast international was the highest Premier League scorer in 2014 and with the champions suffering a raft of injuries to their strikers this term, Bony was brought in to provide some depth and added class in their push for the title.

Arsenal managed to sign Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal. The 24-year-old developed fast in Spain and is considered to already be a solid defender but also one with room for improvement. He cost the Gunners £13.5m and will provide competition for the current centre-backs at the club.

It was a case of try before you buy for Southampton who signed Ryan Bertrand for £10m, the fourth costliest signing in the Premier League. The deal was completed late on deadline day and sees the defender convert his switch from Chelsea from a loan to a permanent deal. Having played in the Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in 2012 and still only 25, it could turn out to be an astute signing from the Saints.

Whilst the rest of our contenders so far cost in the double figures, Darren Fletcher moved to West Brom for absolutely nothing. But the former Manchester United vice-captain still has the quality to play at the top level and over the years was amongst the most consistent midfielders at Old Trafford. The Scot has real quality and might just make the difference between Tony Pulis' side staying up or dropping down.

Any finally, another free signing and one arriving at Manchester United - Victor Valdes. Players don't come with much bigger pedigrees than the Spain international. The goalkeeper won three Champions League titles and six La Liga trophies when he was at Barcelona but having run down his contract at the Nou Camp opted to move on. Louis van Gaal's side managed to be the beneficiaries and if David De Gea does move to Real Madrid (as has been rumoured) the signing of Valdes will look all the wiser.
