Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Kolo Toure should sign for the Scottish champions this weekend.

The 35-year-old worked with Rodgers at Liverpool and was in the crowd at Celtic Park to watch the Hoops succumb to a 6-5 International Champions Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Leicester City after drawing 1-1 in normal time.

Toure had a medical earlier in the day but is unlikely to fly out with his new Celtic team mates to Kazakhstan on Monday for the Champions League qualifier against Astana.

Rodgers said: “It should be complete by tomorrow [Sunday]. I brought him into Liverpool to add that bit of experience and help to the centre-halves there at the time and I think you've seen from his impact there.

“In particular last season, he was a very important player for Jurgen [Klopp] towards the end of the season and played in the Europa League final. He was outstanding for me in the big games when I was there.”

Asked if a new player could be signed in time for the trip to Astana, Rodgers added: “That's something that we need to wait and see.

“We have some work going on behind the scenes, hopefully we can get some business done. It is going to be tight, it is Saturday evening and we leave Monday afternoon.”
