Chelsea have contacted Lionel Messi's father to discuss the possibility of a blockbuster summer move, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish radio station RAC1 claims executives from the Premier League leaders have been in touch with Jorge Messi and other representatives after hearing of the Barcelona superstars reported unhappiness under new manager Luis Enrique.

Messi, along with several other stars, was left out of the starting line-up when David Moyes' Real Sociedad beat Barca 1-0 on Sunday night.

The 27-year-old former Ballon d'Or winner is believed to be unhappy with the new boss, while speculation increased after Messi followed Chelsea and a handful of their players on Instagram later that night.

Spanish newspaper Diario Sport picked up the story this morning, and added that while Barcelona would not sell at any price, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would be willing to meet the €250million (£195.75m) buyout clause in Messi's contract.

Messi is also unhappy in Spain after being hounded by the Spanish tax authorities despite paying a €5m settlement that he thought would signal the end of the matter. Cesc Fabregas and his partner Daniella Semaan remain great friends with Messi and his girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo and could be a factor in the move, reports the paper.

On Boxing Day, Jose Mourinho admitted that there is "no chance" of a deal for Messi because of Financial Fair Play.

"Because at this moment there is financial fair play and with the financial fair play we have to follow certain rules, certain numbers and we obviously have no conditions to buy, as you say a 'super amazing player' paid with 'super amazing numbers' that Chelsea at this moment we cannot do."

There is speculation that the rumours might just be circulating as a way to pressure the Barcelona board into getting rid of Enrique, however.
