Liverpool are being linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Perre-Emerick Aubameyang after missing out on Memphis Depay.

Liverpool looked to be in the running to sign Depay from PSV Eindhoven only for the Dutch club to announce last week that a deal had been agreed to sell him to Manchester United in June.

But it appears that Brendan Rodgers has wasted little time in turning his attentions to his next transfer target, which appears to come in the form of Dortmund’s Gabon international, according to The Mirror.

A number of players at the Signal Iduna Park face an uncertain future following Jürgen Klopp’s announcement that he will leave the club after seven years of service at the end of the season. Both Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan have been linked with moves away from the Bundesliga this summer, with talk of Marco Reus and Aubameyang following them through the exit refusing to go away.

With Liverpool desperate for goals given this season failings from Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini compounded by the concerning injuries issues Daniel Sturridge continues to experience, Rodgers will undoubtedly move for at least one striker this summer, and the likelihood is he will sign two.

But given that Aubameyang has impressed for Dortmund over the last two seasons in the Champions League, whether he would choose to join a club that will not be competing in the tournament remains to be seen.

It’s reported that the 25-year-old will cost in the region of £15m, but Liverpool face the prospect of another club swooping in ahead of them with the prospect of Champions League football, just like United.
