Summer transfer window 2018: Latest Premier League deals and rumours round-up

Olivier Giroud has revealed that he has spoken to his international team-mate Nabil Fekir about joining him at Chelsea.

The Frenchman was on the verge of completing a £53m transfer to Liverpool in June only to see the move collapse because of concerns over his fitness.

Fekir had agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and even held an introductory interview with LFCTV before the club pulled the plug on his transfer.

And Giroud has said that he has since spoken to the 25-year-old about moving to Stamford Bridge instead.

“I spoke to him when we were together in the French national team, when his move to Liverpool fell through,” Giroud said after Chelsea’s pre-season friendly draw with Lyon.

“Then we discussed Chelsea, and I even think that Eden said a couple of words to him.

“We would obviously welcome him, he is a super player, but I don’t know if this is something that could happen as the window closes on Thursday.”

Lyon have meanwhile refused to rule out Nabil Fekir leaving the club before the transfer deadline, with manager Bruno Genesio admitted his captain could yet leave the club.

“It’s too early to say [what will happen]," he said after the match. “He wanted to leave at the end of last season but came back to training yesterday and was happy.

“Who knows? There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window. For now, he is a Lyon player.”

Chelsea have so far bought Jorginho for £51m from Napoli this summer, while a deal for 23-year-old Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is close to completion.
