Swansea's Wilfried Bony has been linked with a move away from South Wales

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has opened the door on a potential move to Liverpool for star striker Wilfried Bony after accepting the lure of playing Champions League football could be enough to tempt the Ivorian.

The Reds have been linked with the 25-year-old all summer and a move now seems likely after the collapse of the deal to take Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy to Anfield.

The fee would have to be considerably larger than the £8.5m Brendan Rodgers planned to pay for the Frenchman, however, considering that Swansea parted with £12m for Bony's services last summer before going on to score 25 goals in South Wales.

Bony is yet to show his hand on a switch to last season's Premier League runners-up, but the former Vitesse man is believed to harbour ambitions of playing European football on a regular basis.

“Wilfried Bony is a fantastic professional,” Jenkins told talkSPORT.

 

“If a top Champions League club comes in, and puts the right offer on the table, then of course we will speak to him.

“There are no issues with Bony. He’s a great guy to have around the club. As much as we want players to stay with us for a number of years, we have to be open.”

Liverpool are still looking for attacking cover despite the £10m signing of Divock Origi last night after losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75m.

The 19-year-old Belgian will also be loaned back to Lille for the coming campaign.

Rickie Lambert, on the other hand, gives Rodgers a new dimension up front but the former Swans boss is keen to add at least one more forward to his squad ahead of an important year.
