Napoli are interested in a deal for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini - with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirming he is a fan of the Belgian's hair.

With new United boss Louis van Gaal prepared to sell last summer's £27.5m signing, De Laurentiis has claimed that the player's famous hairstyle would make him the perfect partner for Gokhan Inler.

"Fellaini is one of the names on the table, but not the only one," the Napoli president told Italian radio station Kiss Kiss when asked about potential transfers.

"[Fellaini and Inler] would make a nice pair," added De Laurentiis, who bizarrely made Inler wear a lion’s mask at his unveiling in 2011.

"Fellaini has long hair and the Swiss [Inler] is shaven. Together they have a hairstyle that looks like a lion’s mane and three years ago I presented Inler with the mask of a lion!"

Images emerged last month that showed Fellaini may have cut his hair, however it had been braided.

The 26-year-old Fellaini failed to score in 21 appearances for United last season and is thought to be receptive to a move to Italy.

However, United may have to accept a loan move for the player, because his £100,000-a-week wages are proving a stumbling block for Napoli.

Rafael Benitez led Napoli to third place in Serie A, and the Champions League, as well as winning the Coppa Italia in his first season in charge.
