Manchester United are expected to announce the signing of Alexis Sanchez imminently.

Sanchez completed a medical at United’s Carrington training ground on Sunday afternoon before travelling to Old Trafford to film promotional footage for his unveiling.

An image appearing to show the Arsenal forward posing in a United shirt subsequently leaked on social media.

As in the leaked photograph, Sanchez is expected to wear the No 7 shirt at United, following in the footsteps of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, suggested that there was “no chance” of Sanchez staying at the Emirates.

“I cannot understand anybody wanting to leave Arsenal. But, in 30 years of doing transfers, you learn a lot about human beings,” he said.

“We did what we tried to do and went as far as we could. Even Manchester City moved out of it in the end. That tells you we had no chance to give him a contract.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan will move in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

The Armenian will complete his Arsenal medical on Monday, having celebrated his birthday in London with agent Mino Raiola over the weekend.

Elsewhere, AS report that Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa has decided against joining Real Madrid, in a decision that could affect David de Gea’s Old Trafford future.

United are currently looking to tie De Gea down to a new long-term contract but Madrid retain a long-standing interest and, according to the Mirror, could move for the Spaniard again.
