Manchester United have been offered Paris Saint-Germain's Gregory van der Wiel after missing out on Dani Alves ,according to reports.

The right-back has been seen as a back-up option for United, after Alves signed a new two-year contract at Barcelona yesterday.

Wan der Wiel, is valued at £7m and has one year left on his contract with the French champions. Roma are also reportedly interested in the Dutchman.

The 27-year-old has made 41 appearances for Holland, and could link up again with Louis van Gaal, the United manager who started him at last year's World Cup.

Alves has spent seven years at Barca, and on Saturday claimed his third Champions League title with the club, playing in the 3-1 win over Juventus.

The Brazilian tweeted after agreeing his new Barca deal: "I have followed my heart and the hearts of those who love me."

Barcelona are under a transfer embargo and would have been unable to replace him until January.
