Manchester United’s full-back woes intensified during yesterday’s defeat to Southampton, with Matteo Darmian becoming the latest defender needing time in the treatment room.

Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are all currently out for United, which could hasten a move for Ryan Bertrand, according to the Daily Star.

The England international was on the opposing side as Charlie Austin’s debut goal gave the Saints victory at Old Trafford for the second consecutive season. According to the report, he would cost in the region of £20million.

Another new name to be thrown into the transfer hat this morning is Genoa’s Mattia Perin.

According to the Daily Mirror, Darmian himself is said to have spoken to the young goalkeeper, who is being touted as potential replacement for David De Gea, should his long-awaited move to Real Madrid transpire.

Perin, who has caught Liverpool’s attention in the past, was apparently watched by the club’s scouts during I Rossoblu’s Serie A meeting with Hellas Verona later on Sunday.

One player who could be looking to move in the opposite direction to De Gea is James Rodriguez.

The Express claims the Colombian’s relationship with new boss Zinedine Zidane is believed to be strained and, with the 24-year-old currently performing out-of-sorts, his exit is becoming increasingly likely.

Any move would depend upon Real’s impending transfer ban. As it stands, the club will be prohibited from registering any players in the next two transfer windows, although Los Blancos intend to get the decision overturned.

A move for another Rodrgiuez could be on the cards, according to The Sun.

Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez, another left-back, has been scouted by the club’s recruitment department, who will now deliberate whether they wish to meet his £27million release clause.

One player who looks unlikely to turn up at Old Trafford is Ashley Cole, say the Mail.

The former England and Chelsea left-back will not be the answer to United’s full-back injury crisis, as he expected to finalise a deal with LA Galaxy.

Discussions between Cole and the MLS franchise are at an “advanced” stage and an official announcement is expected in the coming days.
