A host of European giants are reportedly queuing up to sign Marco Reus amid reports that the Germany international has rejected a new contract at Borussia Dortmund.

The attacking midfielder's current contract runs until 2017 but with the club eager to secure his services on a longer deal the 25-year-old is more interested in engineering a switch to one of Europe's biggest club, according to Germany's largest newspaper, Bild.

Among those reportedly keen on signing Reus are Premier League duo Manchester United and Liverpool as well as Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Louis van Gaal has been making a quick assessment of his current squad during Manchester United's tour of the United States and with numerous players likely to be culled, including Javier Hernandez, Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Anderson and possibly Shinji Kagawa, the new manager is keen to bring in top quality replacements. The departure of Kagawa in particular could raise the possibility of a swap deal including money paid to Dortmund, with the Bundesliga team keen on re-signing the Japan international they allowed to move to Old Trafford in 2012.

Liverpool are rebuilding following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and whilst they have already made six signings this summer, Brendan Rodgers is understood to be keen to continue the recruitment drive.

The interest from Bayern Munich could scupper any hopes of signing Reus for the Premier League pair however, with the German champions making a habit of signing players from Dortmund, most recently Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski. The lure of Barcelona is also typically difficult to counteract.

It's reported that Reus has a £27.6m buy-out clause in his contract, a relatively low figure for such a talent who last season scored 21 goals in 39 matches.

Reus missed out on the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury in the eventual winners' final warm-up game. The 25-year-old is expected to be ready to play again by September.
