Pedro is facing the Barcelona exit despite the club refusing to accept that he no longer has a future at the Nou Camp, with the Spain international having a £22m release clause in the contract that he signed just last season.
With four years to run on his contract, Barcelona are in no position to be forced to sell unless his buy-out clause is met. However, there is a growing expectation that Pedro will leave the club this summer in a bid to seek regular first-team football as he has found it difficult to usurp Barcelona regulars Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Pedro has already begun talks with United over such a move, and the deal is far enough along that is could be wrapped up by the end of the week. However, with United currently on tour in the United States, and move is unlikely to be sealed until manager Louis van Gaal returns from the other side of the Atlantic, although talks between the clubs can be finalised when they face each other as part of the International Champions Cup on Saturday.
United are keen to rush through a deal due to the earlier start to the Premier League season coupled with the return to the Champions League in the form of an early play-off qualifier.Barcelona also need to balance the books following another summer of spending, having already spent nearly £41m on Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal while selling only Gerard Deulofeu to Everton for £4m.
