Redknapp will have to fight off late interest to sign Dutch star from Norwich

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is facing late competition from Premier League rivals Southampton in their pursuit of Netherlands star Leroy Fer.

According to the Evening Standard, the newly promoted Rangers made a £4.8m bid for the Norwich City midfielder earlier in the month.

Loftus Road boss Redknapp is desperate to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season - but Southampton have also stepped up their interest after signing Ryan Bertrand on loan from Chelsea.

They have money to spend after receiving in excess of £90m for five players this summer and are facing a tough task to keep hold of Tottenham target Morgan Schneiderlin.

Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has confirmed he is interested in signing Loic Remy on a permanent basis. Remy spent last season on loan from QPR and scored 14 Premier League goals.

The 27-year-old saw a dream move to Liverpool collapse at the weekend amid reports he had failed a medical but Pardew has not been put off and said: “We certainly had no problem during his time with us.”
