Riyad Mahrez appears increasingly likely to remain with Leicester City despite reported interest in the Algerian winger from Premier League title rivals Arsenal.

The 25-year-old received the PFA Player of the Year award last season as he scored 17 goals and to help propel Leicester towards an unlikely title triumph under Claudio Ranieri.

Mahrez has made no public statement on his future since the end of last season and, unlike midfielder N’Golo Kante, who joined Chelsea for £32m last month, is said to be happy in the Foxes camp ahead of the season opener against Hull City this Saturday.

Speaking last month, Ranieri was adamant the former Le Havre winger would not be allowed to leave the King Power Stadium so close to the new season before expressing doubt whether he would command a starting place at another club.

“It is good because you can continue to write, write, write,” he told the media after the penalty pre-season friendly against Celtic.

“It is good for you but not for us. Did you see Riyad, how he is happy? He played well and worked so hard for the team and scored a good goal. Then he stays with us. Of course.

“For us it is very important because he is one of our stars. He is our fantasy. We can work hard but with him something change.

“With another team there are many more stars and maybe he doesn't play at the same level. Maybe he go on the bench. It is much better he stay here with me and another year is important for him.

“Maybe now (£40m) and maybe tomorrow another newspaper says £100m. Keep going! Mahrez is okay with us. He understands that's someone loves to put some speculation but it is only speculation.”
