Tottenham hope to lure West Brom’s Saido Berahino to White Hart Lane with a £15m bid in the coming week after Mauricio Pochettino made the highly rated striker his priority in the transfer market.
Scouts from the north London club watched the forward on a number of occasions last season, but a formal offer never materialised despite growing interest
However, Pochettino is now expected to facilitate a move for the 21-year-old with the imminent sale of Emmanuel Adebayor; the Togolese striker is likely to join Aston Villa as a replacement for the Liverpool-bound Christian Benteke.
With Albion in the midst of takeover talks, Tottenham may see this as the ideal opportunity to land Berahino, but Tony Pulis is unlikely to let his prize asset leave without a fight.
Berahino made 45 appearances for Albion in all competitions last season, scoring on 20 occasions. His impressive form led to an England call up from Roy Hodgson – the man responsible for promoting him to the West Brom first team when manager at the Hawthorns – but he has yet to feature for his country at senior level.
He was selected to play an important part in England U21’s European Championship campaign after leading the scoring in qualification, but was forced to withdraw from the squad through injury prior to playing.Reuse content
