Stoke have held talks with wantaway Rangers midfielder Jamie Ness about a move to the Britannia Stadium.

The 21-year-old, who made just 18 appearances for the Scottish side, has exercised his right to terminate his contract from the soon-to-be-liquidated Rangers to the newco club.

PFA Scotland believe all players who have done so are free agents and have asked the football authorities to release their registration from Rangers, but newco chief executive Charles Green has vowed to seek compensation.

Ness spoke to Potters manager Tony Pulis earlier this week at the club's training ground and Press Association Sport understands Stoke are hopeful of securing a deal with the player - who has yet to have his medical - in the next few days.

However, the move may be complicated by legal wranglings if Green follows through his threat of court action.
