6 August: Sunderland boss Roy Keane expects more transfer activity at the Stadium of Light before the transfer window closes. "There are three positions at the club I want to work on and, unless you're really daft, you should be able to work out what they are. But for me to talk about players with other clubs would be totally wrong," said Keane. (PA)
31 July: Daryl Murphy has signed a one-year extension to his Sunderland contract. The new deal means the Irish forward, 25, has committed himself to the club until 2012. (PA)
30 July: Tottenham have confirmed that French midfielder Steed Malbranque has joined Sunderland on a four-year deal.

28 July: Sunderland manager Roy Keane has continued his summer spending spree by completing the signing of Bolton forward El-Hadji Diouf for an undisclosed fee. (PA)
28 July: Sunderland are today expected to announce the signing of El Hadji Diouf from Bolton Wanderers for a fee that is thought to be around £3.5m. Steed Malbranque, the fourth of the Tottenham players for whom Sunderland agreed a £23m fee 10 days ago, is another undecided about his future but Sunderland anticipate an answer from both Kaboul and Malbranque within the next 24 hours. Unlike Sunderland, Portsmouth have not agreed a fee with Spurs for Kaboul.
26 July: Pascal Chimbonda has joined Sunderland from Tottenham for an undisclosed fee, the north London club have announced.
26 July: Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has claimed victory in the race to sign Tottenham's Younes Kaboul. Kaboul, 22, looked all set to link up with fellow Spurs stars Teemu Tainio, Pascal Chimbonda and Steed Malbranque at Sunderland after boss Roy Keane agreed a fee for all four. "Sunderland and Villa both made fantastic offers, but the lad decided he wanted to come to Portsmouth," said Redknapp. (PA)
25 July: Sunderland have confirmed the signing of teenage midfielder David Meyler from Cork City. The 19-year-old Irishman has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and could make his debut for the Black Cats against Cobh Ramblers in his home country on Monday. (PA)
25 July: Sunderland boss Roy Keane faces an anxious wait over his pursuit of defender Younes Kaboul after Aston Villa made a late bid to hijack the deal. 23 July: Sunderland have announced the signing of Tottenham midfielder Teemu Tainio, with Pascal Chimbonda's arrival expected to be confirmed imminently. The pair were on Wearside this afternoon to undergo medicals, which Finland international Tainio passed. The 28-year-old becomes Black Cats boss Roy Keane's first summer signing and has signed a three-year contract. (PA)
23 July: Pascal Chimbonda and Teemu Tainio were both heading back to Sunderland this afternoon to undergo medicals. (PA)
23 July: Sunderland manager Roy Keane is hoping to make a major transfer breakthrough by the weekend. The Black Cats are understood to be closing in on several of the four Tottenham players with whom the manager held talks on Saturday after agreeing personal terms, and the Irishman has also revealed the club is negotiating fees for a couple of other targets. It is understood progress has been made with both Pascal Chimbonda and Teemu Tainio, while Younes Kaboul's position appears to have changed markedly since his agent, Rudy Raba, flatly ruled out a move to Wearside last week. He has been repeatedly linked with Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt, while he has also been credited with an interest in both Spurs striker Darren Bent and Everton forward Andrew Johnson throughout the summer. (PA)
23 July: George McCartney has signed a new five-year contract with West Ham. Earlier this month, the Hammers turned down a £4.5million offer to sell the Northern Ireland defender back to Sunderland. Sunderland boss Roy Keane wanted McCartney to return to the Stadium of Light but the player made clear his desire to stay in east London. (PA)
22 July: Sunderland target Younes Kaboul will make a decision over the club's offer in the next 24 hours. The Tottenham defender held talks with manager Roy Keane on Saturday despite his agent Rudy Raba earlier insisting he would not sign for the Black Cats. (PA)

19 July: Sunderland target Pascal Chimbonda is on Wearside to open talks over a possible transfer from Tottenham. The 29-year-old France international is understood to have arrived in the north-east with his representatives after the Black Cats were given permission to talk to him. Chimbonda has admitted he is excited by the chance to join Sunderland. (PA)
19 July: It would take a tectonic shift in Younes Kaboul's thinking to persuade him to leave Tottenham for Sunderland, according to the defender's agent. The 22-year-old is reported to be part of a four-man deal - also including Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque - struck between Spurs and the Black Cats. (PA)
18 July: Younes Kaboul's agent has insisted he will not be signing for Sunderland. "I have said all I have to say. Younes will definitely not be going to Sunderland, and that's it. We won't change our decision, he won't go there. It's finished," he said. (PA)
18 July: Sunderland could be in line to significantly boost their squad after bidding for four Tottenham players. Midfielders Steed Malbranque and Teemu Tainio plus defenders Pascal Chimbonda and Younes Kaboul are all the subject of a £23m bid by the Black Cats.
16 July: Sunderland could head off on their pre-season trip to Portugal with no new faces on board as they refuse to be held to ransom in the transfer market. Their long-standing interest in Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt appears to be waning with the relegated Royals holding out for at least the £5m they were offered for his services by the Wearsiders in January. In addition, reports from Romania claim Steaua Bucharest want £4m for defender Dorin Goian, around £200,000 more than the figure already on the table amid fresh interest form Ukraine club Dynamo Kiev. (PA)
14 July: Fulham have emerged as the latest club to be interested in signing Everton's Andy Johnson. It is reported that Johnson, who joined Everton from Crystal Palace two years ago, is keener on a return to London. That will disappoint both Sunderland and Wigan, who are both strongly interested in the England forward, with Fulham expected to make a bid this week.
11 July: Sunderland could be ready to turn to Romania international Dorin Goian as they attempt to strengthen their rearguard. It is understood the Black Cats have made an enquiry about the 27-year-old Steaua Bucharest player and have been quoted a price of around £3.85million.
10 July: Blackpool boss Simon Grayson has ended his interest in Sunderland midfielder Arnau Riera. The 26-year-old Spaniard began a week's trial with the Coca-Cola Championship club with a view to completing a season-long loan move. However, the former Barcelona B midfielder - who has not made a senior appearance under Roy Keane in two years at the Stadium of Light - has now left Bloomfield Road. (PA)
9 July: Sunderland's search for top-class strikers continues today as speculation over Roy Keane's targets gathers pace. Talk of a £10million bid for Tottenham's Darren Bent has been played down on Wearside, although it is understood an inquiry has been made. The latest name to be linked strongly with a move to the Stadium of Light is Everton's Andrew Johnson. (PA)
3 July: It is understood Scottish midfielder Ross Wallace has turned down a proposed £1million move to Coca-Cola Championship side Preston. (PA)
2 July: Dwight Yorke has signed a one-year deal at Sunderland. (PA)
1 July: Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn insists his club will not buy Irish players for the sake of it.
30 June: Sunderland manager Roy Keane is rumoured to be considering a move for Daniel Guiza, who scored for Spain in their Euro 2008 semi-final win against Russia. The Real Mallorca striker has attracted interest from Spurs, Manchester City, Barcelona and Roma. His £40,000-per-week wages would fit in Keane's wage structure.
28 June: The England Under-21 midfielder Grant Leadbitter has signed a new three-year contract with Sunderland. The 22-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal which commits him to the club until 2011. Leadbitter scored two goals in 17 Premier League starts for the Black Cats last season and has impressed manager Roy Keane.
17 June: Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has urged the club's fans to remain patient as he and manager Roy Keane home in on their transfer targets. Rumours over the weekend suggested the club could break its own transfer record with a £10million bid for Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady, or by prising £16.5million Tottenham striker Darren Bent away from White Hart Lane. (PA)
13 June: There was no word from the Stadium of Light today on speculation that they are maintaining an interest in Tottenham's £16.5million striker Darren Bent. (PA)
13 June: Sunderland skipper Dean Whitehead has dismissed claims he wants to leave the club after a bust-up with manager Roy Keane. He told the club's official website, www.safc.com: "It's exciting times for the club and I want to be a part of it." (PA)
6 June: Defender Russell Anderson, who has made just two senior appearances for the Black Cats since his £1million switch from Aberdeen last summer, spent part of the season on loan at Coca-Cola Championship Plymouth. Manager Paul Sturrock was impressed with the 29-year-old and has confirmed he would like the Scot to return to Home Park. Irish striker Roy O'Donovan too is a wanted man with Dundee United on his trail. (PA)
5 June: Keane has hinted that he will hope to be able to invest around the same as the £44million he spent last season on new players. Sunderland have been linked with Richard Dunne, Newcastle winger Damien Duff and Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell. (PA)
4 June: Dwight Yorke remains in talks with Sunderland over a new contract as he reaches the end of his current deal. Roy Keane is keen to retain his experience and will hope to persuade his former Manchester United team-mate his immediate future is on Wearside. (PA)
3 June: Several clubs are thought to be expressing an interest in Chelsea's Steve Sidwell including Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Newcastle, West Ham, Fulham, Manchester City, Everton and Blackburn, with Aston Villa leading the way. Chelsea want in the region of £6m for the midfielder. (PA)
