Thomas Muller to Manchester United: Germany striker 'would consider any offer from a big club' but reiterates his commitment to Bayern Munich

Thomas Müller had reiterated his desire to stay at Bayern Munich in news that will disappoint Manchester United fans eager to see star names brought in this summer.

The Germany international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for the past two years and the prospect of him joining United appeared to increase when Louis van Gaal took the reins at the Premier League club, having been manager at Bayern when Müller graduated from the academy into the first team.

Following Germany’s World Cup success last summer, it was thought that Müller could seek a new challenge in England, having won everything on offer during his time with Bayern given their three-year domination of the Bundesliga and 2012/13 Champions League triumph.

But he has remained at the Allianz Arena, and despite those transfer rumours rearing their head once again, Müller has reiterated his commitment to Bayern given that his current contract still has four years left to run – though he did admit he would consider a bid offer from a “big club”.

“When you get an offer you consider it automatically," Müller told German newspaper Bild. "A request by a big club is an honour and appreciation that your output was good. But I feel fine at Bayern and my contract runs until 2019. There is nothing more to say about this speculation."

Müller’s declaration will disappoint United fans who are beginning to fret over the club’s recruitment drive this summer. Having made an immediate statement of intent with the £23m transfer of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven, United have not signed a single player since, and Muller’s snub comes as the second Bayern player to reject the prospect of joining United this week.

Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger admitted he is still motivated to succeed with the German champions after setting his sights on a fourth straight Bundesliga title, and United are also struggling in their attempts to sign Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid and Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton having seen official bids for both players rejected.
