The transfer window is open which means it's that time of year when stories of clubs spending ludicrous sums of money on players you've never heard of is par for the course. Here, we take a look at some of today's more intriguing rumours...

Jose Mourinho continues to drop hints about bringing Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge. The 'Special One' has insisted he will not discuss any potential deal for the striker as long as he remains a Manchester United player, but did say Rooney is a player he “likes very much”.

Christian Benteke seems to be Spurs' number one target on their radar this summer and they have decided to make the first move in trying to secure his signature. Reports suggest that they will allow at least one of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Scott Parker, Jake Livermore and Tom Huddlestone to leave as part of the deal.

Romelu Lukaku has apparently turned down a loan offer from West Ham. The Belgian striker who was on loan at West Brom last season, has also been linked with a move to Villa Park.

One loan deal that has been completed is Oriol Romeu move to Valencia. The former Barcelona man seems surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and will return to Spain for the season.

Tom Ince has declined the chance to move to Cardiff City from Blackpool today. The Seasiders had reportedly agreed a deal with Cardiff at the end of last month and had given the 21-year-old till today to make a decision. For the meantime, Ince is still at Blackpool player.

And finally, Cesc Fabergas has maybe given us an idea of where is future may lie via Instragram. A report today showed a picture of the 26 year-old celebrating and playing for Arsenal which he in turn 'liked'. Surely that means absolutely nothing…. .right?
