Tottenham's long-term interest in Leandro Damiao appears to finally be at an end with the club having grown frustrated during negotiations with the Brazilian striker's club Internacional.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs have instead turned their attentions to signing Barcelona striker David Villa, and will finance the deal for the Spain international by offloading Emmanuel Adebayor.

Internacional continue to demand £21m for Damiao, which Spurs deem too much, and his agent Jorge Machado claims a Premier League club, which is believed to be Southampton, are now leading negotiations over a deal.

He said: "There is a club interested. We have been talking with Internacional for many days, but we have to wait.

"Inter have set a value, which is very significant, so we need to have more talks."

Villa's future has been a talking point for the past year but with the arrival of Neymar at the Nou Camp it appear Spain's all-time leading goalscorer will leave Barcelona.

Tottenham are close to securing a deal claim the Evening Standard and hope to partly fund the transfer by selling Emmanuel Adebayor to Turkish side Besiktas.

Board member of the Turkish club, Ahmet Kavalci, said: “We are definitely interested in him and have made an offer. Adebayor currently wants more than what we were hoping however, talks are ongoing.”
