Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino interested in signing Southampton pair Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin

The Saints have told Spurs that Schneiderlin will cost them £27m

Southampton are expected to signal their intentions to keep Morgan Schneiderlin by informing Tottenham Hotspur that they will have to pay at least £27m - while Jay Rodriguez will set them back too.

Ronald Koeman, the new Southampton manager, is set to meet with Schneiderlin today as the French international returns to a break after the World Cup.

Former Saints boss and current Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino has so far resisted the temptation to sign one of his former players as an exodus takes place at St. Mary's.

That could be about to change, however, as The Guardian report that the 42-year-old could make moves for both Schneiderlin and Rodriguez in the coming days.

Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers have all left on lucrative deals while Pablo Osvaldo is expected to join them out the exit before the end of August.

One of many advantages to securing Schneiderlin's services would be his status as a 'homegrown' talent, having joined the Saints at the age of 18 from Strasbourg, and Pochettino is reportedly ready to make his move.

Spurs' rivals - and FA Cup holders - Arsenal are also monitoring the situation and could get back to the St. Mary's club after already signing Chambers for £16m on Monday.

Arsene Wenger is keen to sign a defensive midfielder to sit behind the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud.

Schneiderlin's intentions are yet to be revealed and, should today's meeting with Koeman go well, he could yet stay in the South Coast.
