Tottenham transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino targets Ron Vlaar with Lewis Holtby going the other way - reports

Spurs target Netherlands star after impressive World Cup campaign

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has targeted Aston Villa's Dutch centre-back Ron Vlaar and could offer Lewis Holtby in exchange.

The Netherlands star is in demand after impressing for his country as Louis van Gaal's men reached the World Cup semi-finals in Brazil earlier this month and, according to the Daily Mail, could soon be heading for White Hart Lane.

Pochettino, keen to avoid the fate of predecessors Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood, is also prepared to offer Michael Dawson in a player-plus-cash deal after his switch to Hull City stalled.

Spurs could face competition from Pochettino's former club Southampton should they lose Dejan Lovren to Liverpool in the coming weeks. Last season's Premier League runners-up have already failed with a bid in excess of £15m but are likely to improve their offer.

With Swansea City duo Ben Davies and Michel Vorm already secured, in a part-exchange with Gylfi Sigurdsson, Tottenham's summer planning is gaining steam.
